2010 Fic Meme

I have had a pretty decent run in this fandom… having fallen in a few weeks before Series 3 aired. I have been writing fic since that Novemeber when all hell broke loose with my idea that became Through the Glass.
Let’s take a look at what fanfictional sins I have committed over the past year.
Did you write more or less than you thought you would this year?
I wrote quite a bit more… especially one-shots. I think that might partially be due to having created
never_ever_will, which is a quiet little non-competitive prompt community.
Where did you publish/archive your stories?
Absolution was published to my fic journal, Teaspoon, and FFN. It and Bedside manner are the only Doctor Who fics I think I published on FFN… I don’t post there often.
What did you write that you didn't predict in Jan. 2010?
Holy crap! That’s an easy one. Three words: Nine/Rose Smut!
But I think the fandom appreciates me for it… even if it has now led to the one other things I thought I would never write…. Nine/Rose baby!fic. *headdesk* I hope I shall be forgiven for such and egregious sin. I always claimed he was more of a father figure, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.
What's your favorite story this year?
I am honestly really liking the follow up to Only One Way Out (which I also like), Lessons on Nesting, which all of you likely know by the second fic, Pulled From Orbit. It’s fun to explore a new side of Nine. Nine as worried father to be and eventually, Nine as a father again.
If I hadn’t written that, I think I would have to say that my other favourite is Absolution, which I have enjoyed even if my muses have sort of died off for Ten at the moment, even my take on a human Ten.
But if you would like to know my favourite one-shot…. I would have to say On This Night. I love how the emotion was conveyed with only one word spoken, Rose’s name.
Your most popular story?
At the moment, I think it would be Only One Way Out. I don’t think I have ever had a single chapter of a fic reach over 70 comments before… ever. At least not this year. I think Absolution is close runner-up, though.
Story most under appreciated by the universe?
Basically anything new in Barcelona verse… but then again… that’s just how it works. I also haven’t been posting any of the Two Months fics anywhere but my journal as I try to get them finished… I hope to.
Story that could have been better?
Toeing the Line. It was written off a prompt on
never_ever_will, but it doesn’t exactly feel finished. I keep debating on doing a smutty follow on now that I have committed Nine/Rose in nearly all forms I said I wouldn’t. (feel free to cheer me on, if you think I should)
Sexiest story?
Oh… that’s a hard one. Maybe the Lessons : Introduction? But Just a Cannibal was quite a bit of fun as well. Even if it is a bit of a bait and switch. I plan to write a companion piece of Nine playing Doctor. Perhaps I’ll look into that soon.
Most fun story?
I had a load of fun writing An Adventure in Self Discovery I kept laughing as I was writing it. I hope that translated into some pretty amusing times for you lot. Got to love the idea of body swapped Ten trying to get used to all the elements of being human.
Story with the sweetest moment?
I have to say that I really love the scene at the beginning of Pulled From Orbit Chapter 4, where Nine is dreaming about holding his baby before he even knows if Rose is pregnant or not. I can just see him sitting there for hours touching and petting little fingers and toes, completely amazed by the tiny person in his arms. I think I like that image so much I will have to write it later.
The story that made you cry?
Absolution. Any of the scenes where Rose is crying… I tended to cry while writing them, because the deal she was given was such crap. I don’t care what anyone says about it being a television programme, it still upsets me to this day. Which is the entire reason I wrote Absolution. I needed someone to fix it for me, to make me feel better about what happened to her. She fought to get back to him only to be pushed away again. WTF?!
Hardest story to write?
Scheherazade. It was my first attempt at a proper Nine story. I’d done a paradox fic or two before, but never Nine and Rose in their proper timeline together. I wrote it for
emraldeyedauter who won me on
help_chile. I had attempted to write a different story, that failed (it will be resurrected for
nine_verse) so I thought I would do this one, since it seemed like fun.
I had a difficult time keeping it from getting triggery. The alien was going to get a bit more handsy, and the Doctor was going to imply what would have happened had he not come to get her in time, but I was able to keep things toned down, with a lot of work (rewording and rewriting of parts). I do like what came out of it.
Easiest story to write?
On This Night came to me so easily. I think I didn’t have to reword anything once I got it down on the page, it just simply was. And I love it. I should write from my Haggadah more often. I do get some wonderful stories.
Most overdue story?
Currently, Reconciliation. I had planned to have that one nearly finished by now so I could get on and finish the third in that trilogy, Salvation. But my Ten muse quit on me, so Reconciliation and the rest of Tancho Base are still pretty much dead at the moment.
Did you take any writing risks this year?
Nothing that got me banned from posting anywhere this year, as I have done in years past. ;) But I think actually writing Nine/Rose babyfic as a sequel to a non-babyfic story, might be a bit of a risk. I wonder how many will keep reading now that Rose really is pregnant.
Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?
I will aim to get most of the Lessons on Nesting series under my belt. PFO will go through the birth (or up to). And then the next fic in the series will begin… taking place over the first year.
I need to update my master list again.
I also plan to attempt getting all unfinished WIP finished… if I can get my muses back, that is.

I think that at the very least, she would have some severe trust issues and be thinking "did he ever even love me? did he even miss me? have i wasted the past X years trying to get back to someone who maybe wanted me gone all along, and that's why he sent me to Pete's World in the first place?" TenToo has an enormous amount of emotional crap to clean up, I admit, although I ship them *hard* lol.
