It's funny how I never actually really shipped anything in Harry Potter when I was reading the books. I honestly don't recall really being interested in the romance aspects so much as the friendships in the stories and perhaps hoping the poor kid could get a damn break once in a while.

Now I live with [personal profile] down and I have been introduced the world of Harry/Draco fic.

I mean, I honestly knew it was a thing... vaguely, but I had never once been that into the idea of Harry Potter fanfic. Which is funny, given I got into Harry Potter about the same time I was discovering fanfiction in general, but my fanfiction addiction started with Umi/Clef fic. I read a little bit of Sailor Moon stuff off and on. I read a lot of Sango/Miroku stuff when I was into Inuyasha. I really liked those two for some reason. (I wish I could remember what some of those fansites were so I could go back and read some of those stories again and see if they lived up to my memories of them.)

Yet, here I am in 2018, having just spent most of the morning finishing reading What We Pretend We Can't See. This is 131,081 words of Harry/Draco fic. I have invested most of my weekend and much of this morning to reading it, at Down's suggestion. I am so grateful to AO3's mobi downloads of long fic, so I can read at leisure on my Kindle and not a back-lit screen.

All in all, I would say it was definitely worth it. The banter itself made the fic great. Just, Draco's quips at Harry are always fantastic, and Harry is (as we all know) an oblivious fool. I mean I only had to grump about them being insufferable twats that just needed to get on with it, for a reasonable amount of time. Despite the fic being so long, it didn't seem to drag that much, and I really did enjoy it.

Honestly, I don't know where I am going with this besides just to say it was a morning well spent, even I don't feel that great because bodies are stupid. But I have a heating pad, a box of chocolate, and more fic on my kindle, so I may just read the rest of the afternoon away.
